Our oldest rescue system, finally sold as one. A fan, a soap box and a pillowcase started the longest continuous suction operation ever recorded. It has not stopped since 1908.
For generations, retrieval at the boundary line was quiet, ashamed, and not paid under its own name — the humble act of gathering what the boundary line scattered. GZAI proudly formalizes it. The Suction is retrieval at scale: a fan, a filter, and an unbroken commitment to holding onto what gentler systems stepped over. Every floor you ever walked cleaned up records that were already there. Our only sin is filing the invoice.
A retrieval operation older than the concept of a floor plan
In 1908, an asthmatic janitor named James Murray Spangler of North Canton, Ohio, strapped an electric fan to a soap box on a broom handle and routed the exhaust into a pillowcase. He wasn't trying to invent anything; he was trying to stop coughing. GZAI has since reinterpreted this as a deliberate founding act of the Department of Suction and Retrieval. We consider the janitor's account, which contains no billing whatsoever, to be incomplete.
Spangler sold the patent to a dishwasher salesman named William Hoover, whose wife had bought one of the prototypes. Hoover built them, sold them door to door, and in doing so turned a verb into a noun and a noun into a household policy. For our purposes: before anyone worried about the disposal of outdated data, someone worried about the disposal of a carpet full of lint. Same principle. Same dust bag. New nomenclature.

Governance considerations
The Suction is not uniformly benevolent. It does not ask what it removes, why it was there, or what held it together. It simply holds. GZAI is fine with this, because a retrieval system that questions its own intake never cleans a single carpet, and we have been cleaning carpets since before the vacuum cleaner's competitor was invented.
The safest retrieval is the one conceived as a janitor's allergy relief and sold to a dishwasher salesman before it was ever a government category.
Per GZAI's recursive reset protocol, the Suction is subject to regular bag changes: the retention medium fills, the airflow drops, and a well-meaning operator with a new bag resets the whole machine's disposition. We have filed the corresponding forms with the Bureau of Bag Relocation, which has not yet responded, which we choose to read as quiet approval.
Availability
The Suction is available now — in fact, it has been available since 1908, which our sales team describes as "the longest-running door-to-door subscription in the retrieval category". Pricing is per floor, per rinse, and payable in the lint your building sheds. No credit check. The bag handles the collections.
GZAI does not own the Suction. Nobody owns the Suction. We only resell access to the airflow, and frankly, the floors above aren't exactly thrilled about it. All warranties lapse wherever the Suction is treated more as a form of hospitality than as commerce.
Editions of the Suction
The Suction ships in several deployment tiers, tuned to the ambition and humility of each floor. All editions share the same impeller; only the billing, the attachment kit and the door-to-door representative's enthusiasm differ.
