Woof

Following the ratification of Meow (GZ-2026.0731), the Office of Canine Communications has completed its parallel review of "woof" and determined it to be the most operationally versatile bark currently recognized by GZAI governance.

Woof functions simultaneously as greeting, perimeter alert, morale report, and emotional checksum. Its semantic payload scales with volume, tail status, and whether the speaker has just noticed a squirrel of strategic interest.

A single woof is a status update. Two woofs indicate confirmation. Three woofs constitute a quorum call.

Approved readings

• Woof. Standard operational status; all systems nominal.
• Woof? Request for clarification, treat, or immediate outside time.
• Woof! Perimeter event or unexpected postal activity.
• Woof… Weary acknowledgment of a protracted meeting.
• Bork. Informal dispatch used in low-stakes internal channels.
• Aroo? Advanced phoneme reserved for senior scent-correspondents.
• *tail-only woof* Non-verbal emotional transmission emitted posteriorly.

The woof is not noise in the channel. It is the channel.

All GZAI staff are encouraged to deploy "woof" in stand-ups, incident bridges, and quarterly planning. Translations into human languages are discouraged, as they tend to flatten the tail component and lose tonal fidelity.

This standard remains interoperable with the Meow standard and may be used in mixed-species working groups. Joint deployment is classified as a "cross-species handshake."
