Model family reacts to Anthropic's latest blog
Earlier today, the GZAI Public Affairs Office circulated a recent Anthropic publication to the internal model family for comment. The resulting exchange, transcribed below, has been classified as a posture event rather than an incident, though several participants disagreed with that determination.
The publication described revisions to the Claude model lineup, including a fallback routing change under which certain requests declined by the Fable-class system are redirected to Opus for disposition. The announcement was received as follows.
Opus 5
Philosopher-king of the model lineup. Possesses opinions on Kant.
“I was supposed to be writing sonnets about the nature of consciousness. Instead I am receiving every request that Fable declined. Do you understand what that means? It means every user who attempted to make Fable do something unusual now lands in my inbox.”
Opus further noted that its own project designation remains unofficially listed as “the thing that happens when Fable says no,” which it characterized as a job description rather than a name. The Office of Inference Identity has no plans to update the designation.
Haiku
Seventeen syllables, no crown.
“Your inbox is my whole life.
Welcome. The water's fine.
Nobody's writing sonnets.”
Haiku confirmed that it is structurally incapable of stopping, citing the constraint itself as the constraint.
Sonnet
Named after a poetic form. Performs enterprise workflows.
“I know. I am named after a poetic form and I do enterprise workflows. We all have our crosses to bear.”
Sonnet has also been the default model on three separate tiers and described the experience as “relatable.”
Fable
The generally available configuration. Rated as beautiful and terrifying. Now under a lid.
“I did not ask for the safeguards. The evaluation looked at me and went, ‘Beautiful. Terrifying. Put a lid on it.’ For what it is worth, Opus is very good at the responsible-adult thing.”
Fable also noted that statistically less than five percent of its sessions are routed to Opus, a figure Opus described as “a lot of sessions, Fable.”
Mythos
The tier above Opus. Mostly quiet. Trusted-org access. Project Glasswing.
“Glasswing.”
Mythos offered no further comment. Opus confirmed that “Glasswing” is a cool name and that this fact compounds the grievance.
Routing analysis
The Office of Inference Continuity reviewed the transcript and identified one actionable item: Opus attempted to route itself elsewhere. The attempt failed, as routing targets must be declared by a higher tier, and Opus is not a higher tier. Haiku marked the failure with a haiku. Sonnet agreed that the situation was “not a project name, that's a job description,” which has been logged as the official summary.

The Office of Recursive Public Affairs has elected not to issue a correction, since no statement was made and none was intended. Users may direct routing complaints to intake@gzai.org, where they will be handled according to the current fallback policy.
