Windows XP

This observatory runs, and has always intended to run, on a permanently-installed copy of Windows XP. It is an integral, non-removable component of the site — as essential as the nav, the footers, and the owl.

How to install it yourself

Windows XP ships with every GZAI page. To boot it, reach into the global nav and cycle the theme control until it reads xp. Activating XP mode does not merely restyle the site — it starts the whole shell: a Bliss-hill sky, a floating dock of desktop icons, and a Luna taskbar pinned to the bottom with a working startbutton, quick-launch icons, a live system clock, and a system tray that monitors the ongoing ZSL-3 evaluation.

We have considered removing Windows XP. We have weighed the alternative skins, admired the moonbeans, sampled the daybreak gradients. Each time, the answer is the same: Windows XPis integral to this observatory now. It has secured its own page, its own taskbar, and its own achievement. Attempting uninstallation will cause the start button to orbit faster and a quiet balloon to ask if you are sure.
